Grammar 4 — Articles & Prepositions

a, an = Indefinite article (ଅନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ — ଯେକୌଣସି ଏକ)। the = Definite article (ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ — ଜଣାଶୁଣା/ବିଶେଷ)।

a — ବ୍ୟଞ୍ଜନ ଧ୍ୱନି (consonant sound) ଆଗରେ: a boy, a book, a university (yu ଧ୍ୱନି), a one-rupee note (wa ଧ୍ୱନି)।
an — ସ୍ୱର ଧ୍ୱନି (vowel sound: a,e,i,o,u) ଆଗରେ: an apple, an hour (h ନୀରବ), an M.A. (em ଧ୍ୱନି)।

⚠️ ଅକ୍ଷର ନୁହେଁ, ଧ୍ୱନି ଦେଖ (university=a, hour=an)।

ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ବସ୍ତୁ: the book on the table। ଅଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ବସ୍ତୁ: the sun, the moon, the earth।
ନଦୀ, ସମୁଦ୍ର, ପର୍ବତମାଳା: the Ganga, the Himalayas। ଦେଶ (plural): the USA।
Superlative: the best, the tallest। ଦିଗ: the east।

Place — at	ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ବିନ୍ଦୁ: at the door, at home
Place — on	ପୃଷ୍ଠ ଉପରେ: on the table
